"Rare Sounds is a new vinyl club that is here to tell the stories of the Funk & Soul Revival, from US to Europe, Japan to Australia. The late 90’s Revival saw bands like The New Mastersounds, The Greyboy AllStars, Sugarman 3, the Dap-Kings, Galactic, Speedometer, The Bamboos, and Osaka Monaurail, bands of mavericks obsessed with recreating analog production, 60’s grooves and soul songwriting. Throughout the next three decades, that sound continued to evolve and grow to where we are today. During the coming months, join me on the journey and enjoy some of the most influential records from the last 30 years."

At the time [mid 90's] there weren't that many bands playing that type of music, there was less interest in funk music in general. There was an acid jazz thing going that was more based on hip-hop. I actually got into that music because of hip-hop and hearing drum breaks and wondering where that came from. Then I found the original records and got into the original band and started to love it all. Eddie was into that scene too and I remember telling Karl Denson, “I can’t believe there’s other people who listen to this stuff!”
